The Unveiled Exhibition – A Collaboration With Artist Virginie Binet-Johnson.

“I believe arts and creativity are integral and inseparable parts of what it is to be human.”

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Throughout our busy lives, it is all too easy to focus on function rather than form. To save money, to improve efficiencies, to move quicker, faster, better, we are sometimes encouraged to ignore the real benefit of holding, designing and making something because of the beauty it adds to our lives and because it enriches our soul.

Yet furniture designers like Vincenze De Cotis, Mathieu Lehanneur and Marcel Wanders all fuse art and design and create beautiful objects to stir the soul. They are rethinking the line between furniture and art. Lyzadie firmly believes in the benefits of using design to move and inspire us, and to ignite our senses towards being better people, collaborators and partners. She believes in creating unique, rare and provenance pieces which have a story. She wants to create exquisite furniture pieces that will inspire you to think outside your comfort zone. Some of the most beautiful colors, shapes, and concepts imaginable that shape contemporary furniture. Languid armchairs, exquisite tables inspired by a beautiful land, refined lighting pieces and everything you need to see when you’re looking for art and furniture in the same place.

We were part of the Unveiled Exhibition with artist Virginie Binet-Johnson. Watching the reaction to her wonderfully visceral work has reinforced our commitment to viewing all aspects of our design process as art. The material resources used in each part of our works has always been of utmost importance to us, and seeing the public react to our White Cloud glass works, our Flow or Black Tree Fern pieces in the same way as they are reacting to paintings and photographs on the walls has been a revelation that functional design pieces can drive visceral reactions as much as painted canvas. Modern and contemporary pieces were displayed as art, and they stood the visual test; the best crafted pieces brought power to space.

”Gentle visual caress on a soft surface.

Interlacing invisible fragile threads.

Sweet sacred moments to embrace.”

Virginie Binet-Johnson

We look to nature, to a culture, to its people for our inspiration and believe that as a species, humans are refreshed and invigorated when allowed time to reconnect with the real essence of the world outside. Bringing the magic of the native species of New Zealand, of her flora, fauna, epic landscapes, of its people, is therefore part and parcel of what we do at LyZadie Design Studio. We aim to let that magic flow through our designs to inspire, uplift and revitalise the souls of all who see, hold and touch our work. We hope they help remind us what it is to be human.

Art collectors looking for rarity, signature, provenance and value are now looking at furniture and exquisite home accessories to match the art.

“We feel there’s a strong need for designing objects that we as humans can experience with more of our senses and feel connected to on a deeper level. There are a million things that can distract us in our day-to-day lives, and finding or creating those sanctuaries is therefore vital for our well-being; spaces and places that provide the setting for relaxation, awareness and connectedness.”
