Materials

Rich. Real. Honest.

Each piece from the LyZadie Design Studio is alive with natural materials sourced from one of the most beautiful places on earth. Rich in the hues that only nature can provide, this is luxury furniture inspired by the pristine lands and iconic culture of New Zealand. Braided rivers, twisted trees, brilliant flora, vibrant song; every element in every LyZadie Design piece is inspired by a love for nature and culture that is honest, pure and unique.

You can expect to see the rich tapestry of New Zealand’s nature and people eternalised in wood, stone, rammed earth, glass, running metals, new materials and leather. Exceptional materials that stand the test of time and that hold the warmth of the planet deep in their form. Moreover, all of our products are made from sustainable resources. Raw, recycled and rescued, we make sure to tread lightly on the earth and are committed to giving back to our planet rather than taking from it. We make a commitment to constantly research new materials which have a real sustainable impact on the planet and challenge ourselves to use these materials in our creations. These are products you can trust to make a real impact on your sustainability journey.

Real, honest and quality materials touch us on a deeper level, and thoughtful design last a lifetime. That’s our goal with this brand and collaboration; to reconnect with nature through materials, and create designs that last.

Lyzadie_APR19_0090Rescued River MataiA native wood of New Zealand, the trees are sourced from the rivers of the South Island. Submerged logs of Matai are rescued by our partners and makers Treology. The journey of this material starts in those beautiful West Coast rivers. A GPS location marker is placed under each table so you know where the tree came from.
Lyzadie+Exhibition_3rdMarch_007Rammed EarthRammed earth base is constructed by ramming a mixture of selected aggregates, including gravel, sand, silt and clay. A custom formwork is then placed and secured ready for the earth. A desired soil is tested for suitability, mixed with approximately 7-10% cement and then placed and compacted into the formwork in layers of between 150mm and 200mm deep. Using a pneumatic rammer the soil is pounded down to approximately 5/8ths of the loose height of the material. The formwork is removed immediately after compacting to reveal the finished surface of the bases. In the EARTH&SKY Collection the earth is sourced from Pakeho near Te Kuiti - 38º20’17”S 175º04’22”E.

Lyzadie_PLN_1641_WEBUsed black leather beltsA journey of collecting used belts all over New Zealand is behind this sustainable material. We wanted to reuse a material which also told a story. The beautiful layered story and texture of the leather adds a richness to our ReLeathered Collection.

Lyzadie_19thOct_cloud_Vase_1399GlassFluid, light, translucent, simple, hand blown glass provides the versatility and fragility in a material. We love the process glass goes through to make a vase or a light. This material can be recycled over and over without losing its structural integrity.
