LIQUID EMBRACE

A poem. A feeling. A collection.

Every collection has a beginning.

Liquid Embrace began with a feeling.

During the first lockdown in April 2020, the world fell silent. In that stillness, I experienced something I had never known before. It was a love so profound, so peaceful and so complete that it felt beyond words. It wasn’t love like I had ever felt. It was something greater. A connection to life itself.

That experience changed me.

Trying to understand what I had felt, I wrote a poem called Liquid Embrace.

Liquid embrace

been upside down,
caught up in the middle of a swirling storm,
across the raging ocean of my mind,
I find you,

surrendering to the vastness of your world,
I dive in,

body floating,
eyes closed, slow my heart down, stillness,
feeling with all my limbs, my mind, my soul, to my heartbeat, your heartbeat,
your breath, your immensity, your taste, you,
all of me,

all of you,

I dive into your depth,
swallow me up into your liquid world,
where time is frozen,
pulling me down,
down,
down,
drowning in your blue immensity;

liquid embrace,
touching every fibre of my being, of your being,
merging within,
the universe opens,

drunk on you,

I surface from your beautiful depth,
lungs burning,
breathe,
the fire within, the fire,
breathe,

the loving embrace,

breath, air, water, swirl around
all become one,
all of you, all of me,
feeling,
just you,
you,
all encompassing you.

As I wrote, images began to emerge in my mind. Two forms becoming one. Bodies dissolving into flowing lines. Boundaries disappearing. Love becoming movement rather than shape.

Without knowing it at the time, I had discovered a new visual language.

Those first sketches became the beginning of a collection.

When love becomes form

When restrictions lifted, I returned to the sea.

Swimming, diving and floating in the ocean became part of the creative process. The water felt like the physical expression of everything I had written in the poem. It felt like home. Every movement became softer, slower and more connected.

The flowing lines that now define Liquid Embrace echo the invisible connections between two bodies, nature and place.

Nothing is forced.

Everything flows.

The collection celebrates the honesty of natural materials, allowing timber, wool, silk, stone, glass and metal to express their own character.

One of the greatest joys of creating Liquid Embrace has been watching a deeply personal story grow into collaborations with remarkable makers and brands.

What began as a poem became a series of drawings.

Those drawings have since evolved into furniture, artworks, textiles and objects that continue to expand the collection in new and unexpected ways.

LIQUID EMBRACE × Designer Rugs

The latest chapter brings Liquid Embrace to the floor beneath our feet.

In collaboration with Designer Rugs, two handcrafted rugs translate the original flowing line drawings into luxurious woven artworks.

Handmade using the finest New Zealand wool, silk or bespoke wool-and-silk blends, each rug celebrates movement, softness and the quiet beauty of natural materials.

Every rug is individually crafted and can be customised in size, colour and material to suit private residences, hospitality spaces and commercial interiors around the world.

Inspired by the colours of New Zealand’s landscapes — from braided rivers and alpine snow to native forests, black sand beaches and coastal waters — each piece offers a sense of place while remaining deeply personal.
