PONGA

The PONGA Collection is a story carved from land, sea, and spirit. It is a tribute to the guardians of the Pacific, where design is not only form but memory, an altar to the past and a vessel for the future.

At its heart stands the ponga, the great tree fern of Aotearoa and the Pacific. For generations, its tall fronds stretched towards the sky while its trunk became a keeper of strength, resilience, and remembrance. Across the islands, ponga wood has been shaped into tools, woven into homes, and carved into guardians: silent protectors watching over villages, families, and the whenua/land.

In this collection, LyZadie Design Studio reimagines this ancestral material, pairing it with Cleanstone from Critical, a material reborn from discarded fishing nets. Here, the forest and ocean meet. The guardians of land embrace the guardians of sea. What was once cast away is transformed into permanence, reminding us that renewal is both possible and necessary.

The PONGA All-Mother Console Table

Our first piece is the All-Mother Console Table: a piece of origin, reverence, and guardianship. She embodies the grandmother and mother of all mothers, the eternal guide who gave life and continues to watch over us. Carved by master artisan Herb Betham of Betham Artistree in collaboration with Bespoke Timber Design, she rises from ponga wood, textured with the whispers of the forest, balanced upon Cleanstone, the sea returned to form.

She is more than furniture. She is an altar, a guardian form that unites ancestry with innovation, memory with renewal.

Guardian Totems

The collection also carries Guardian Totems: sculptural forms carved from ponga wood, each one holding the essence of the Pacific. Their porous yet enduring surfaces speak of volcanic lands nourished by ocean rain. Like the ancient guardians that once stood at the edge of villages, these totems protect, remind, and connect us back to the land, the ocean, and the sky.
