In a testament to its commitment to sustainable luxury and artistic collaboration, LyZadie Design Studio’s LETSWEAVE Coffee Table has been named a finalist in the prestigious New Zealand Best Design Awards’ furniture design category. But this collection represents more than just innovative furniture. It embodies a rich tapestry of artistic collaboration, cultural heritage, and ethical design, one that characterizes the entire LETSWEAVE Collection.
The collection’s genesis lies in a serendipitous meeting between studio director Lyzadie and artist Sheree Willman. United by their admiration for Māori Tukutuku panels and tāniko patterns, they embarked on a journey to transform two-dimensional art into functional sculptures. This collaboration delves deep into Māori concepts, colors, and culture, resonating with Lyzadie’s mother’s Melanesian heritage and bringing new life to traditional art forms. The LETSWEAVE Collection found its first expression at the WANA exhibition, where concept became reality. For Lyzadie, this collection embodies a positive force that weaves a strong story across time and space, grounded in values of community and support.
In bringing these designs to life, LyZadie Design Studio partnered with Dylan McKay of Bespoke Timber Design. This collaboration marries Dylan’s background in superyacht design and bespoke furniture crafting with Lyzadie’s innovative vision. Together, they’ve created pieces that are not just furniture, but stories in their own right. The aim was that each piece contain the Ihi (the energy of inspiration) and Wehi (the response).
Handcrafted in Auckland, each piece in the LETSWEAVE Collection showcases the natural beauty of reclaimed Rimu and Kauri woods. This choice of materials not only supports environmental sustainability but also infuses each piece with its own history and character. The 12-week crafting process results in bespoke items that are as much works of art as they are functional furniture.
The LETSWEAVE Collection holds history and craft, nature and art at its very core.
